About Beaver Brae

Beaver Brae Secondary School in Kenora, Ontario is home to more than 860 students and 95 staff members, grades 7-12.  Kenora is a small city on the northern shore of Lake of the Woods and offers a multitude of recreational and professional opportunities for its residents.

Beaver Brae reflects the diversity of the community within its halls.  From our fine arts programming and activities to our extensive Bronco sports program to our leadership opportunities and councils, our school offers opportunities for all students to be involved.  This, coupled with a high academic standard and expectations for all students, makes Beaver Brae a strong and supportive component of our community.

Our facility has recently undergone a number of renovations to meet the needs and demands of today’s learners.  We have two gyms, two videoconference facilities, multiple computer labs, a state-of-the-art kitchen for our Hospitality and Foods and Nutrition courses, a large library, classrooms outfitted with recently installed SMART boards, projectors and other technology, two art rooms, a fully equipped music room with attached practice rooms, fully equipped science labs and multiple technology labs for construction, transportation, communication and integrated technologies.   Wireless connections are available in various locations in the building.   Our atrium plays host to a number of student activities including coffee houses hosted by our Fine Arts Council.

A committed staff of more than 95 teachers, education assistants, custodians, and support staff stand behind and support each Beaver Brae student ensuring their success.  Our Student Services area houses guidance counselors, our cooperative education program and hosts a multitude of community services and counselors who provide services within our building.  We have well-developed life skills programs and special education services in our Student Resource Centre supported by a network of highly skilled teachers and education assistants.  Our course calendar offers a diverse selection of choices for students as they plan their academic pathway, including a number of native language and native studies courses.   Students may also select experiential learning opportunities through cooperative education and our High Skills Major programs in Technology and Health and Wellness.  Student Success teachers are available to provide additional support to students and parents in navigating their secondary school pathway.

Our high academic standards see our students into post secondary opportunities such as university, apprenticeships, workplace, entrepreneurship, and college placements.   Our present and prior students are the faces you see in our libraries, small businesses, offices, and schools.  Many of our own staff are graduates of this school who have returned to give back to their community and ensure students have the best experience possible at Beaver Brae.  Bronco Pride is not just something we say, it is something we live each day as we strive to achieve our loftiest goals and be the best we can be.
